        🎇PERUVIAN AMAZON FOOD:JUANE

The juane is one of the main dishes of the cuisine of the Peruvian jungle and is widely consumed on June 24, the feast of St. John the Baptist (San Juan).  The juane would have been a food usually made for travelers, as they could be stored for long periods without spoiling. when Spanish missionaries arrived in the amazonia, they adopted the practice.

According to legend, it was these Spanish missionaries, on their way from Chachapoyas to San Martin, who noticed the similarity of this food parcel to the severed head of St. John the Baptist (San Juan Baptista), leading to the name juane.
